The Striated Heron (Butorides striata) photographed at Beddagana in August 2015, one of my first images with the 600mm f/4 lens-now my stalwart tool for bird photography.

  1. Ian–These last bird shots are incredible. Your new 600mm lens has a distinctive “soft sharpness” in its images that I can’t recall seeing anywhere before. By this I mean an almost creamy smoothness in tonal transitions accompanied by an incredibly precise securing of detail. Together with their careful framing and fortuitous lighting these images are really superb.
